On Top Of Spaghetti

By Paul Brett Johnson

Color of the Week

Red

We revisit red AGAIN since it’s such a fun color in the kitchen.

See if you can think of the red items you found in the kitchen a few weeks ago!

Letter of the Week

S for Spaghetti

“Every letter makes a sound, S says Sss!”

Snack of the Week

Mac & Cheese

For those of you that have kiddos that LOVE mac & cheese,

make it this week and have them help you with each step of the prep!

If they don’t like cheese or can’t have dairy,

make the elbow pasta and add a non-dairy butter substitute or sauce!

The key here is to do it together so your kiddo learns the steps and sequence in making pasta.

Use words like “first, next, last” when talking about what you need to do while cooking the pasta!

Art Project of the Week

Pasta Art

Gluing pasta onto various things (rocks, paper, paper plates, jars, you name it!)

can be TONS of fun! Buy the colored pasta or color-dye them yourself.

How to Dye the Pasta:

Choose various pasta shapes/sizes, get plastic baggies, rubbing alcohol and food coloring (liquid) or liquid watercolor paint.

Place your pasta into a baggy (one color per bag).

Add a tbsp. rubbing alcohol, close baggy and massage in to the pasta.

Open the bag, add food coloring, close bad and massage it in again!

Take it out of the baggy, spread it on a wax-paper lined cookie sheet and let it dry!

Now you are ready to make projects with your pasta!

You can glue it to things as suggested above, string it on string or pipe cleaners, push it into dough and more! Have fun with this!

Field Trip of the Week

Contact a local restaurant and see if they ever do “field trips”

Or if they will let you come and learn how pasta is made.

We have a local restaurant that does this for kids (“Pizza Pass”) and the kids get to make their own pizza and pasta.

See if you can find a place that does this near you!

App of the Week
