The Mitten

Color of the Week

White

Maybe it will snow outside and you will have an easy time finding “white” items to point out.
Go on a winter hunt through your house and collect items that are “white” in a basket and then have a show and tell!

Song/Nursery Rhyme of the Week

The Mitten Song

Thumbs in the thumbs place,
Fingers all together.
This is the song,
We sing in mitten weather.

When it is cold,
It doesn’t matter whether,
Mittens are wool,
Or made of finest leather.

Thumbs in the thumbs place,
Fingers all together.
This is the song,
We sing in mitten weather.

Letter of the Week

M for Mitten
“Every letter makes a sound, M Says Mmm!”
(Hint: Rub your tummy when you say “mmm”. It’s a good cue/reminder.)

Snack of the Week

Mitten Cookies!

Roll out sugar cookie dough and let each child put their hand down (fingers together, thumb out)
like a mitten and cut around their hand.
Bake the cookies and let them frost and decorate their “mitten”.

Art Project of the Week

1. Bake your snack!
2. Cut and Paste the animals on to the mitten,
(or if you have a laminator, print and laminate and
you can Velcro them to the mitten for story retell,
removing them each time you read the story to put them back on or in the mitten!)
You might also use the pieces to put them in a real mitten when you read the story!

Have fun! Get your project here: The Mitten Cut & Glue Activity

Field Trip of the Week

The field trip this week is in YOUR home!
You are going to find a mitten (or make one out of a pillow case or other materials)
and take a trip around your home finding items to put inside the mitten.
See how many items you can fit inside the mitten!
Tell a story while you do this or after about each item and why
they wanted to climb into the mitten.
Then retell the story to a friend or family member later the same day or this week!
This might be a fun holiday activity for the children if you need to
occupy them during a meal or while cooking, etc.
You can also play The Mitten Bingo to keep warm inside: Get it here!
