Book Club Week 9: The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

Book Club Week 9:
The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

By Hallie Bulkin

Again this week I come to you with one of my FAVORITE books for the Fall season. With this book you can read, re-read, have your child retell the story by just looking at the pictures, practice sounds that each of the items in the story make (and have fun with it by designating a body movement to go with each object and sound).

Theme of the Month

Fall

Book of the Week

The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything
by Linda Williams

Hint: Focus on the objects that follow the little old lady home, the sounds they make and choose a body movement to pair with them (e.g., wiggle your whole body for the wiggling pants, nod your head for the nodding pumpkin, etc.)

Color of the Week

Brown

Label 5 new brown things a day!
(Don’t forget the brown leaves!)

Song/Nursery Rhyme of the Week

Little Old Lady and the Scarecrow
(Sung to the tune of “Wheels on the Bus”)

The shoes on the scarecrow go
CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP (clomp your feet!),
CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP,
CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP.

The shoes on the scarecrow go
CLOMP, CLOMP, CLOMP,
Behind the ladies back.

Continue singing this for each of the following items:

The pants on the scarecrow go
WIGGLE WIGGLE WIGGLE…

The shirt on the scarecrow goes
SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE…

The Gloves on the scarecrow go
CLAP, CLAP, CLAP…

The hat on the scarecrow goes
NOD, NOD, NOD…

The pumpkin head on the scarecrow goes
BOO,BOO,BOO…

Don’t forget to use a movement for each item and sound:

For example, wiggle/shake body,  clap hands, nod head, cover eyes and uncover for boo!
