Five Little Penguins Slipping on the Ice

Color of the Week
Maybe it will snow outside and you will have an easy time finding “white” items to point out;
unless you’re in a heat wave like we have been in the DC metro area!
You can still go on a winter hunt through your house and collect items that are “white” in a basket
and then have a show and tell like you did last week.
Review the items and see if you can remember the items that belong in the “white” category.
Song/Nursery Rhyme of the Week
This book is a rhyme in and of itself so have fun with it!
You can also sing 10 little monkeys jumping on the bed to compare the two depending on the age of your child.

If you have a kiddo who is into cream cheese and olives, try these from allrecipe’s website:
Ingredients:
18 jumbo black olives (pitted), 1 8oz pkg cream cheese (softened), 18 small black olives, 1 carrot
Directions:
- Cut a slit from top to bottom, lengthwise, into the side of each jumbo olive. Carefully insert about 1 teaspoon of cream cheese into each olive. Slice the carrot into eighteen 1/4 inch thick rounds; cut a small notch out of each carrot slice to form feet. Save the cut out piece and press into center of small olive to form the beak. If necessary cut a small slit into each olive before inserting the beak.
- Set a big olive, large hole side down, onto a carrot slice. Then, set a small olive onto the large olive, adjusting so that the beak, cream cheese chest and notch in the carrot slice line up. Secure with a toothpick.

Field Trip of the Week
Go see a winter show or create your own in your family room re-enactment of the Gingerbread Man story!
If your weather is as great as ours has been,
take a trip to the zoo to visit the penguins
(that part is usually a partially inside exhibit).
Nothing like reading about penguins and
then seeing real penguins in person!
